With the partnership of B.A.A. and adidas as the
meets presenting sponsors for the second year,
on an unseasonably warm fall day (75 degrees), the
mens race came down to a 200-meter sprint
between Sammy Nyamongo and Francis Kirwa, both Kenyans
attending Life University. Kirwa held on for the
victory in 23:13, and Nyamongo finished second,
posting an identical time to Kirwa (23:13). Chan
Pons was third in 23:19. In the team competition,
Reebok Enclave was victorious with 36 points. Life
University, despite Kirwa and Nyamongos first
and second place finishes, settled for second with
42 points. In the womens race, Lesley Lehane,
of the Boston Athletic Association, cruised to a
first place finish in 16:37. Miesha Marzell took
second in 16:44 and Irishwoman Rosemary Ryan, formerly
of Boston University and representing the B.A.A,
was third (16:47). Lead by Lehane and Ryan, the
B.A.A. easily won the womens team competition
with 33 points. ASICS Club East was second with
55 points. The B.A.A. and adidas sponsored the meet
for the second year.
