Not willing to settle for second best two years
in a row, NYAC’s Brad Schlapak (23:50) edged
Brighton, Mass. roommate Tim Gannon (23:52) by two
seconds to finish on top in the men’s 8k in
rainy and windy weather conditions. Stan Bickford
finished 30 seconds behind Gannon with a time of
24:28 and settled for third place. Kathy Franey,
of the Reebok Racing Team and a graduate of Villanova
University, covered the woman’s 5k course in
16:32 to claim the first of her two Mayor’s
Cup titles. Jen Rolfe, formerly of Boston College
and running for Nike Boston, finished 26 seconds
behind, runner-up ahead of Kate Fonshell, who ran
17:07 and was Franey’s teammate at Villanova. |
