The second Mayor’s Cup races took place following
the official dedication of the Franklin Park course.
This year’s race served as a preview to the
US National Championships, and Andrew Ball, of Nike
Running Room, claimed victory in the men’s
5.9-kilometer race with a time of 17:49. Local favorite
and former Northeastern University standout Brad
Schlapak was runner-up 18:01. Nike Boston’s
Gwyn Coogan easily won the women’s title (5.9
kilometers) in 20:23, one minute, 34 seconds ahead
of second place finisher Margaret Beardslee. The
race was sponsored by Nike Boston Track Club. |
