Created in 2005, the Boston Debate League’s mission is to extend the social and academic benefits of debate to as many Boston Public Schools students as possible. Debate provides an engaging, educational opportunity for a broad spectrum of students, from those already high achieving to those who are off-track academically and at-risk of dropping out. Urban Debate Leagues like the BDL have a track record of improving academic performance, attendance, high school graduation, college matriculation, and lifelong achievement. Students in the Boston Debate League are given the coaching, the encouragement, and the skills to advance their knowledge of current events, develop their public speaking and persuasive writing, and improve their confidence and belief that they can succeed. This year’s marathon team will have an enormous impact on the Boston Debate League’s ability to help students from Boston excel.
